Crate diggin'....Don't do it

I stumbled upon this in a record collector's forum I frequent online. I think the art is humorous, not because of its cartoon essence, but rather the laughter derives from how true these facts are when it comes to collecting. Serious record collectors are quite a bunch nerds, to say the least. We strive for the rarest of the rare to satisfy our need to possess a highly sought after treasure. The art is by Stefan Glerum

Dusty Fingers 101: Part Two

Bob James - "Nautilus" from the One Album

Run DMC - "Beats to the Rhyme" from the Tougher Than Leather album

Jeru the Damaja - "My Mind Spray" from The Run rises in the East album

In the spirit of the new Speed Racer & Ironmovie...
Ghostface Killah - "Daytona 500" from the Ironman album

May Movie Wrap up!

Baby Mama (4/10): I wasn't too enthusiastic to watch this movie but I figured since I really take a liking to Tina Fey's comedy, I'd thought I'd give it a shot. :BUZZER: Wrong! The movie was just too much of a flop for me to even enjoy it. Maybe it was the 778797234 children that had no business in the theater in the first place, maybe it was too cheesy....maybe it was just a BAD movie. Stay away...for good

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (8/10): After watching Iron Man i figured it was really going to set the tone as far as the quality of blockbuster that will be coming out in the following months..and it has made me very hopefully. INDY is a great watch overall. It really captured and continued what we have come accustomed to in the I.J. series. Harrison Ford still got it and I thought Cate Blanchett tried a little too hard with her Russian accent just like Jon Voight in "Ananconda."

Dusty Fingers 101: Part One

Welcome to the first installation of Dusty Fingers 101. In this new weekly section, I will educate many of those who are curious about the origins of Hip Hop music. I like to think of myself as an enthusiast who can appreciate the original pressing and explore what producers heard when making many of Hip-Hop's premier tracks.

The section is very simple in structure; I will post a Hip Hop song and then post the sample from the original artist with some background notes for both tracks (*for those who dare to expand their musical horizons*) All of the mentioned albums and songs are from my own personal collection.

LET'S GO!

Show & AG - "Next Level" (nytime remix) from the album GOODFELLAS a *If you watched 8mile, much of this heard in this film

Maynard Ferguson - "Mister Mellow" - From the album Conquistador

I feel like chicken tonight!...like chicken tonight!

KFC came out with these new "Snacks" that are just orgasms in a wrapper. Ever since I tried them earlier last week, I've gone back at least 3 times to try all of them. My favorites are the buffalo and bbq chicken saNGwiches. They are just like pringles....you just can't have one! ::Highly Recommended!:: (with p0tat0es of course!)

This side of sunshine....

Roy Ayers is by far one of the most influential jazz/fusion/funk artists ever. Probably second to James Brown, he has been credited to many samples that are used in Hip-Hop and popular music. I bought this album last year and this is the 1st song of the record (A real masterpiece in my book). If you ever feel the need to explore and expand your musical tastes....this is a great start.

Weekend Movie Review pt.1

Iron man: (7/10) Saw this blockbuster on opening day and I forgot how much it really sucks to be late to a movie on its premier date. Sat all the way in the front but AMC tends to have mercy on those unfortunate late movie goers by giving us reclining comfy chairs. BACK TO THE MOVIE!: I was a bit over hyped by the movie and realizing that I have never even picked up an IM comic book, I really had no idea what to expect. I got what I expected but I felt that it needed a little more to get me over the edge. Robert Downey did a great job and whore of a love interest did a fantastic job too.

Enchanted: (4.5/10) Don't know what came over me to watch this kid's flick. But something told me that it was gonna be a worthy watch. WRONG! Its rather cheesy and corny amongst other foods that I'd throw at the screen for its exploitation of little girl's dreams and fantasies only to be broken early in their pre-pubescent lives. It was watchable at best and I probably wouldn't admit to watching it (with the exception of those reading this).

No Country for Old Men:(8/10) Talk about a great movie! It leaves you on the edge of your seat yearning to know what drastic and horrific end the next victim will endure. Javier Bardem brings that killer to life unlike no other mass murderer i've ever seen. The ending is something left to be desired but you be the judge. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

God Damn, that DJ made my day.....

I went to check out Feel Good Fusion on friday night. FGF is a free 18+ hip hop show they hold over at the Terrace every last friday. Much props to Seano and Denkym for putting on some good music. They know their hip hop...but the crowd is exactly what i'd expect out of an 18+...alot of 18 year olds. There were a few fights that broke out (completely unHIP-HOP).

But the highlight of the day if not the week...was meeting one of the most influential DJ that really changed MY LIFE when it came to hip hop and music in general. I was able to buy him a drink of Hennessey and coke to show my appreciation for all that he had done. We spoke for a couple minutes before he was grabbed by some groupie love.

To speak a a bit on him. He's part of the World Famous Wake Up show that is still on to this day. I spent many of my friday nights/saturday mornings in Junior high/High School staying up from 11pm-2am taping the shows. To me it was the only day of the week that I was able to listen to indepedent artists and music that influenced the genre itself.

What a blessing......

Jan 08' Movie Review

Well i haven't done much around this blog...and you've probably got much to do anyways..if you're reading this..here are the movies of the month!

THERE WILL BE BLOOD - MUST SEE! - Great performance by Daniel-day Lewis...i always liked my left foot..and you should too!...Its a long movie but it keeps you on the edge of your seat. I was expecting for it to be a drawn out movie shoot in a single location but i was surprised on how well the story turned out.

Diving Bell and the Butterfly - Interesting - Again, another story i wasn't actually drawn to see but I was persistent to give this flick a chance. I have never see a movie shot completely in first-person. Definately gives you an insight on near death/ coma experiences.
